The Robins PI soccer team picked up another nice win tonight, defeating their biggest rival, Anoka-Hennepin 6-1. This game was pretty tight for the first 20 minutes, with the Robins taking a 3-1 lead into halftime. A Sam Roles goal just 14 seconds into the second half seemed to turn the tides in the Robins’ favor, and they maintained control of the game from there. Roles finished with 2 goals. Calvin Gerdt had 3 goals and 1 assist. Izear Joiner had 1 goal and 1 assist while Maddie Ausk and Hayley Engebretsen each finished with 1 assist. Lydia Mazza blocked 5 shots, Ethan Sullivan blocked 7 and Jordan O’Donnell blocked 2. Vincent Luu was awesome tonight, stopping 39 of the 40 shots he faced. The Robins’ next game is Wednesday at 4:15 PM vs. Mounds View at Robbinsdale Armstrong High School.
In the 2017 adapted soccer season opener, the Robins found themselves locked up in a heated battle with the Park Center Pirates. The Robins took a 2-0 lead early on, but the Pirates’ speed and aggressiveness wiped the lead away very quickly. These things, combined with some sloppy play by the Robins, allowed the Pirates to hold a 4-3 lead at halftime. The second half started with a Sam Roles goal, less than two minutes in, which was his fourth of the game. From there, Calvin Gerdt used his speed and finishing ability to score the next 5 goals for the Robins, leading them to victory. Gerdt also finished the game with 3 assists. Izear Joiner had 2 assists, and Brendan Bosker-Elliott has 1 assist. Jordan O’Donnell, Lydia Mazza and Ethan Sullivan all blocked 3 shots each on defense, while Vincent Luu made 28 saves. The Robins will have their first home game of the year next Monday, Sept. 25 at 4:15 PM against Anoka-Hennepin.
Tonight, the Robins finished off the regular season with their third game of the season against Anoka-Hennepin. The Robins were without goalkeeper Vincent Luu, so they knew going into this game that it would be an extra big challenge. Joiner made 25 saves, while Ethan Sullivan finished the game with 14 blocked shots and Jordan O’Donnell finished with 17 blocks. The Robins finish the regular season with a solid 6-3 record and will be the #2 seed from the North Conference at the Adapted Soccer State Tournament on November 18 & 19 at Stillwater High School.

The Robins PI soccer team took their second loss of the season this afternoon, falling to the Anoka-Hennepin Mustangs, 4-1. The Robins got on the board first, getting a goal from Izear Joiner with an assist by Hayley Engebretsen, just 2:19 into the game. Unfortunately, the lead didn’t last as Anoka tied it just a few minutes later, then took a 2-1 lead into halftime. The Robins battled hard all game long to keep this game close, but missing a starting forward and keeping up with Anoka’s fast paced attack proved to be too much to overcome. Vincent Luu was outstanding once again, making 52 saves. Defensively, Ethan Sullivan blocked 22 shots and Jordan O’Donnell blocked 9. The Robins will look to get back in the win column when they travel to Mounds View on Monday, October 24.
The Robins PI soccer team suffered their first defeat of the 2016 season tonight, falling to the Anoka-Hennepin Mustangs 3-0. This game was tight from start to finish, with all three Mustang goals coming by virtue of minor defensive mistakes by the Robins. After nearly 10 scoreless minutes to start the game, Anoka pressured goalkeeper Vincent Luu into a rare mistake and took a 1-0 lead. The Mustangs capitalized on two other mistakes in the first half to lead 3-0 at half time, but were completely shut down by the Robins’ stingy defense for the remainder of the game. Cory Tesch and Maddie Ausk both did a fantastic job of limiting scoring chances by the Mustangs. Ethan Sullivan was awesome, blocking 21 shots while Jordan O’Donnell had a very solid game, blocking 8 shots. Vincent Luu was absolutely incredible in this game, stopping 71 Mustang shots on goal. The Robins will try to get revenge on the Mustangs when they travel to the Andover YMCA for a rematch on Tuesday, October 18.
